Sometimes the best trips are the ones you squeeze in right before life gets busy. With the holidays approaching, we decided to make a quick weekend escape to the Eternal City. Living in Naples puts Rome just a short train ride away, yet somehow we'd been putting it off. Not anymore - we finally answered the call, three kids in tow, including an infant.
We found an Airbnb with a view that made the whole trip worth it before we even stepped outside. From our window, St. Peter's Dome rose against the Roman sky. Morning coffee with that view? Unforgettable.
Walking Through History
The Vatican was our main destination, and it did not disappoint. We walked through the Holy Doors - a powerful experience that's hard to put into words. There's something about standing in a place where millions have stood before you, each carrying their own hopes and prayers.
The Vatican Museum was a feast for the eyes. Beautiful artwork at every turn. And our littlest traveler? The infant spent the entire time gazing up at the ceilings, completely mesmerized. Maybe she was onto something - those ceilings deserve all the attention they can get.
Pro tip: Put on your walking shoes. Rome is not a city for tired feet. Between the cobblestones and the endless wonders around every corner, you'll rack up the miles without even realizing it.
Getting There and Back
The high-speed train from Napoli Afragola made everything surprisingly easy. The station is modern, efficient, and built for speed - we were in Rome in just over an hour. No airport hassles, no rental car stress, just a smooth ride into the heart of the city and back home to Naples. With kids, simplicity is everything, and the train delivered.
A weekend wasn't nearly enough time, but that's Rome for you. It leaves you wanting more. We'll be back - hopefully before the next set of holidays rolls around.
